Memoria idrica is a research and artistic creation project developed by Claudia Müller Montes during her residency at Casa degli Artisti, Milan, as part of the Omnirica open call, curated by Susanna Ravelli and supported by Casa degli Artisti and Erasmus+ (Universitat Politècnica de València).

The project investigates Lombardy’s water network—the Maggiore, Como, and Garda lakes, the Ticino and Adda rivers, and the source of the Olona River—from an interdisciplinary perspective that brings art and science into dialogue, establishing a connection between the Alps and the Andes.

The research takes form as a ceramic installation that recreates the three main Alpine lakes using the coiling technique. The lakes are connected by ceramic branches made from molds of deadwood collected along the shores of the lakes and rivers. A circulation system keeps the water in constant movement and balance. The project also includes large-format watercolors depicting Lombardy’s water network.

Memoria idrica proposes an understanding of water as a network of relationships between bodies, mountains, forests, animals, stones, rivers, and lakes, creating a bridge between two mountain territories and their different aquatic temporalities.
